CEMEX Reduces CO2 Emissions by 13% in Cement Production

Here's the '2023 Integrated Report' by CEMEX. From their highlights on their decarbonization mission, we find the following key insights:

  • From 2020 to 2023, CEMEX reduced its Scope 1 and Scope 2 specific CO2 emissions by 13% and 12%, a pace that previously would have taken 15 years. CEMEX also achieved validated environmental impact disclosure for 100% of its cement products.
  • Vertua low-carbon cement products account for 56% of total cement sales, with an average CO2 reduction of 45%. Alternative fuels usage increased to 37%, and the clinker factor decreased to a record low of 72%, reducing process emissions.
  • CEMEX repurposed close to 28 million tons of waste through its Regenera circular economy business line and implemented water optimization plans at 30% of sites in water-stressed areas.
