UP AND DOWN

Karbon Kapucha, the world's most climate conscious CEO and the man who runs the world's largest company TGD Inc (Total Global Domination Inc.), gives an order that everyone in his headquarters - a largish edifice with 2000 staff - should climb the stairs instead of using the elevator, starting the very next day.

Within an hour, he gets a work from home request from a large number of employees.

Karbon is stunned. Surely his staff, whom he had considered paragons of sustainability and peerless-partners-in-progress-for-planet, could not be so reluctant to embrace such a benevolent habit!

An average human being would have despaired. Even a superior Homo sapiens might have felt his spirits starting to wither away.

But Karbon did not reach to where he had reached without two top-secret, powerful ingredients in every CEO's recipe for success - hope & trust. These two virtues swelled up in his breast at this critical juncture and reminded him that he would discover, from amongst the hoi polloi, a few gems who would vote for the planet with their feet.

But nopes! On counting, he finds that almost everyone had put in a Work from Home request - including his own secretary, Welly Suppocha, who had provided regular hints, more frequently regular around performance review periods, that she was willing to jump from their 5th floor office if that would make the planet better even by an insignificant inch.

No one wanted to climb the stairs - except one.

Karbon's eyes open wide, you could even say goggled. A close observer would have even seen the dawn of vindication emerging on his face - there was at least one whom he could consider his soul-mate in sustainability efforts, whom he should unfailingly cultivate in future as his bosom buddy.

"And just who exactly is this admirable John H?", he asks aloud, eager to be enlightened further about this magnificent human being who stood like a colossus amongst a rabble of mere mortals.

Flipping through the employee register, his anxious fingers impatiently swooshing pages from A to I and then on to J of course, his eyes finally, lovingly come to rest on John H, the embodiment of sustainability, the pride of Planet E, and owner of the generous heart willing to support the associated legs stretch some fifty times up and then down again everyday so that the future could be brighter for the balance of humanity:

JOHN H, OFFICE UPKEEP  - The associate responsible for cleaning the stairs everyday at the TGD Inc. office headquarters.
