CEO wants Occidental to become carbon neutral

  • Occidental Petroleum is currently the largest user of carbon capture and injection techniques, injecting over 950 billion cubic feet per year of CO2 into its Permian fields.

  • The company  has successfully piloted the use of enhanced oil recovery in its horizontal wells in the U.S. and  plans to apply the technique to use captured CO2 to increase oil production.

  • Occidental invested in Carbon Engineering, a Canadian direct air capture (DAC) company, to commercialize its capture and Air to Fuels technologies.

  • Occidental Petroleum joined the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), established by oil companies in 2014 to develop low emission technology.

  • “We believe if you’re not addressing these climate issues today, you’re going to be behind the game,” - CEO Vicki Hollub
