Description

  • Design, optimize, and manage wastewater treatment processes, ensuring operational efficiency, compliance with environmental regulations, and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities

1. Design and develop wastewater treatment processes, including physical, chemical, and biological systems.
2. Create and optimize process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
3. Select appropriate treatment technologies based on influent characteristics and treatment goals
4. Analyze and improve the performance of existing wastewater treatment plants by adjusting process parameters, such as chemical dosing, aeration levels, and sludge handling.
5. Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs, energy consumption, and water usage while maintaining or improving treatment quality.
6. Implement new technologies and techniques to enhance process efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
7. Provide ongoing technical support to plant operators, maintenance teams, and facility managers to ensure the smooth operation of treatment systems.
8. Ensure that all wastewater treatment processes comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including discharge permits and air emissions standards.
9. Prepare and submit compliance reports to regulatory agencies, ensuring accurate and timely data reporting on effluent quality and other parameters.
10.Stay informed about changes in environmental regulations and ensure the facility remains compliant.
11.Prepare detailed technical specifications and documentation for procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
12.Explore and evaluate new wastewater treatment technologies, materials, and approaches to improve process performance and sustainability.
13.Work with R&D teams to develop innovative solutions for emerging wastewater challenges, such as nutrient removal, micropollutant removal, or water reuse.
14.Conduct risk assessments and ensure all wastewater treatment processes are safe for operators and meet industry safety standards.
15.Develop safety procedures for chemical handling, equipment operation, and confined space entry.
16.Maintain detailed documentation of all processes, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintenance logs, and process changes.
17.Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal stakeholders, clients, and regulatory bodies.
18.Regularly update process documentation to reflect changes in technology, regulation, or operational practices.
19.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
20.Provide technical support to sales teams and clients by offering insights into treatment solutions and presenting technical details of processes.
21.Participate in client meetings, project planning sessions, and industry conferences to stay updated on trends and share knowledge.

Background Needed

  • 3-4 years of relevant work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes (e.g., biological, chemical, physical treatments).
  •  Experience with process control systems such as SCADA or PLC.
  • Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Aspen, MATLAB).
  •  Familiarity with environmental regulations and permitting processes.

  • First principles approach
  • Awareness of the mechanical, electrical, biological, and chemical processes involved in wastewater treatment facility functioning.
  • Knowledge of the hazards that can occur in wastewater treatment plants and the precautions that should be taken.
