Chitra Ravi – Chrysalis – on Climate Education – Cli5 @ Clidemy
Climate education and skilling are key components of climate action and will be important
drivers in its success. Yet, climate education is currently in its nascent stages, is highly
ineffective and fragmented.
Cli5 is an effort to get valuable inputs from a wide range of stakeholders about their
perceptions about climate education and their suggestions for improving it.
The Cli5 project comprises collecting answers for a maximum of 5 questions around climate education –
hence the title Cli5.
The Cli5 project is coordinated by Clidemy – The Climate Academy – www.clidemy.com
Here are answers to Cli5 from Chitra Ravi. Chitra is the CEO & Founder of Chrysalis, a pioneer in children’s education using technology in an innovative and enriching way.
Thank you Chitra – Team Clidemy.
Why do you think most ordinary people know so little about climate change and
related domains?
There is awareness on the Internet but no so much in mainstream media and
in vernacular languages.
Even on the Internet, there is general awareness but not so much guidance on “simple” calls for action
What types of topics within climate change or sustainability would you like to get
educated on, or learn about?
Topics that enable actions! What can I do? What should I do?
How can we make schools teach more climate education to children – both primary &
secondary school children?
- It should become a part of EVS studies.
- Lessons, projects need to be incorporated in the syllabus.
- A day every year where children showcase projects
- Can schools collaborate with parents and teachers, students to do something to voice/ express their solidarity?
Are you aware of climate related jobs? If yes, what careers are you aware of?
Not really, mostly just NGO jobs that advocate climate change – this is perhaps an indication that more awareness creation is needed for people from outside the sector!
