Can space based solar panels provide electricity 24×7?

In the last few years, there has been a lot of talk about putting up solar panels in space.

Now, why would someone want to do such a thing?

Mainly because, space-based solar panels can provide constant electricity, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Why?

Because there are no nights in space.

There is no rain in space.

There are no cloud covers in space.

Solar panels are thus exposed to constant solar radiation throughout, helping them generate reliable, constant electricity – also called in technical terms the baseload power.

That’s the attraction of space-based solar power.

Now, how does that one bring that solar power back to earth?

Ah-ha, that’s an entirely different question, to be answered elsewhere in ClimaQuest.
