Businesses in the infrastructure and construction businesses should become more aware of the opportunities that CO2 capture and storage will offer.

Whether one likes or not, CO2 capture & storage (the entire process termed CO2 Sequestration) is already a reality in some parts of the world, and this will practice will increase in many other parts.

While this will result in many business opportunities, one interesting opportunity will be the laying and maintenance of CO2 pipelines under the sea.

This is because a good amount of the captured CO2 will be stored under the oceans. Here is in fact a new item where CO2 is transported across national borders to be stored under the ocean. These storage locations will be determined based on many studies, but some large storage locations could offer the storage capacity of millions of tons of CO2, enhancing the demand for sub-sea CO2 pipelines.

Some studies indicate that the oceans could hold a total CO2 storage capacity of over 5,000 billion tons, which represents 100+ years of CO2 emissions at the current annual rate of CO2 emissions (about 35 billion tons per annum in 2022).
